When to go.
Ngorongoro has 3 seasons like Serengeti, with 2 rain seasons; the short rains in November and December and longer rains from March to May.
Average annual rainfall ranges from 750mm on the crater floor and 1500mm on the facing slopes on the Eastern crater rim.
Temperatures range from 100C in July and August to 300C maximum in the hottest season of the year. When temperatures are warm and the air is clear, is the best time to visit the place especially in May and November. This is the excellent climate at the park since days are warm and nights are cool.
A number of microhabitats are diverse due to a change in rainfall especially between Eastern and Western facing slopes. As a result, all the weather reaches from the East, then easily it gets as far as the Rift valley, forcing the air to raise, hence causing constant rain in the Eastern side, while the Western side faces remain in rainy shadow. As a result, different vegetation is seen when you fly over the Rift valley on different slopes.
